If ever there was a place that “you can’t get to from here,” then the Punta Islita is it. Only a few kilometers south of Playas Carrillo and Guanamar, the Punta Islita is next to impossible to reach from either Sámara or from Playa Coyote, farther south over the bone-jarring oxcart paths they call roads. Fortunately, the hotel has a private airstrip with exclusive daily flights from Tobías Bolaños airport in Pavas (about $85 one way, $160 round trip). If you’re considering a stay here, this is absolutely the best way to arrive. The secluded and romantic luxury hotel sits on a hillside with panoramic views of the ocean and the mountain ridges that roll down to the beach. Tex-Mex style rooms and villas with tile floors, private patios, Navajo print bedspreads, and white or light color walls have understated class, accented by fresh flowers. Villa suites have private pools and the huge free-form pool spills over an infinity edge overlooking the Pacific. The Punta Islita is a favorite of honeymooners, for obvious reasons. The large conical palapa restaurant serves delicious international cuisine. The beach and its bar is reached by a 10-minute walk, but the hotel will drive you down.
