Introduction
Périgueux has two claims to fame: its historic monuments and attractions and its food. Of the first it can be said that there is nowhere else in all of France, other than Paris, with so many historic relics and gems to regale the visitor – from prehistoric cave paintings and Roman ruins to fortified medieval villages, centuries-old châteaux, and even 18th-century manors. These are mostly in Périgueux and the surrounding Dordogne region and offer huge value to history buffs. As for the region's food, it is arguably some of the finest in France.

Périgueux is located on the river Isle in the Dordogne department in Aquitaine in southwestern France.
Périgueux can be reached by rail from Limoges, Bordeaux and several other regional destinations.
