Zell am See and Kaprun

Zell am See is a lakeside health resort, while Kaprun is a glacier ski resort. In the early 1970s, in a stroke of marketing genius, the two paired up to create the Europa Sports Region – a well-networked infrastructure with sporting opportunities for all seasons.

Zell am See & Kaprun Orientation

The Europa Sports Region sits in central Austria at the southern edge of the province of Salzburg. The Höhe Tauern mountain range to the south and the Steinernes Meer range to the north border the region; its two resorts, Zell am See and Kaprun, lie in the foothills along the shores of the Zellersee. The town of Zell am See flanks the western edge of the lake at the base of the 1,968-m Schmittenhöhe. Across the Salzach Valley, seven km to the south, the village of Kaprun huddles below the 3,029-m Kitzsteinhorn and its Schmieding Glacier.
