Back on the SS71, the next stop before the Emilia Romagna border is Badia Prataglia. It stands tall at 843m(2,765 feet) on a thickly wooded Apennine ridge. A popular starting point for many of the park’s most popular trails, is the nearby Museo Ornitologico Forestale Carlo Simeoni. An arboreto of exotic trees, it was built to study the progress of the trees being reintroduced to the region in 1835 under the watchful eye of Carlo Simeoni (Karl Siemon).
