Vaglia’s major sights are a short drive or hike up the slopes of Monte Senario (2,600 feet/815 m). There is the Romanesque Chiesa di San Romolo (daily, 7 am-noon, 4:30-6 pm) with its wood-sculpted font decoration attributed to Michelozzo, Andrea della Robbia terracotta altarpiece and paintings by Pietro Annigoni at Bivigliano; and the Convento di Montesenario with fine views from its peak. The latter also offers a celebratory tipple of its homebrewed liqueur Gemma d’Abaete (available in the cloister drugstore) as well as an interesting itinerary around the caves and cells once inhabited by the friars of this Servite monastery established in 1241.
