You can spy plenty of fauna and flora at the 5,600-acre Riserva Naturale del Pigelleto. Its well-marked paths take you through woods that are home to protected species like the harrier eagle, the honey buzzard, the sparrow hawk, and nocturnal creatures like the barn owl, the white owl and the tawny owl. There are also deer, wild boar, porcupines and wild cats on the prowl, and red lilies, cyclamens, wood anemones, violets and the rare belladonna plant providing seasonal color.
