The last major sight is just across the Arno. The Museo Nazionale San Matteo which sits alongside the Romanesque church of the same name. The museum occupies a former Benedictine monastery with its vast collection of archeological remains, art (polyptych by Simone Martini, Madonna dell’Umiltà by Gentile da Fabriano, San Paolo by Masaccio, Madonna and Child by Fra Angelico) and sculptures (including works by Andrea Pisano, Andrea della Robbia, Michelozzo, Donatello and Tino di Camaino) taken from all over the city and the province. from here, it’s just a short stroll back to the Ponte di Mezzo.
