Riksgränsen, which literally translated means “the national border,” is the northernmost ski resort in the world and offers skiing as late as the end of June. Summer skiing exists in other places in Scandinavia and Europe as well but almost exclusively on glaciers. What makes Riksgränsen unique is that there is no glacier here; it’s simply so far north that summer skiing is possible anyway. The season here starts in February and ends on the midsummer weekend, which is at the end of June. Sometimes, the air temperature is warm enough to ski in shorts and short sleeves, but the most spectacular thing about skiing here during midsummer is the midnight sun. The lifts are normally open 9 am-4 pm during the day in peak season, but every Wednesday and Friday night, between mid-May and midsummer, they open up at 10 pm and close at half past midnight.A one-day lift pass costs 285 kr/$30 and a night pass costs 245 kr. Ski rental services are also available. There are often special offers so call or visit the website before you go to find out more.
