This 900-acre park on Mullet Key has a Spanish-American War fort built to protect Tampa Bay, but its cannons were never fired in battle. The fort is a great place to explore and imagine the soldiers’ lonely lives while they waited for something that never came (unless all they were waiting for were the supply ships). The park also has seven miles of beach, boat ramps, playgrounds and picnic shelters.
