Granville Island
Granville Island, located on the south side of False Creek, is a hip sort of place, a world unto itself, where you can walk around, grab a bite, and watch the town go by. The island itself is really quite tiny, which one can walk around in a matter of just a few minutes, yet it is packed with places of interest. In fact, if you have time to visit only one place in Vancouver, make it this one.
Of particular interest here is the Granville Island Public Market. Any food item one can possibly imagine is available here, with scores of fruit, vegetable and meat stands. Items from every corner of the world can be found here. This is in fact the best market in western Canada.
The two streets leading out of the market are also of interest, jammed with small art galleries, gift shops, chandlers – yes, this is still a working harbor area – and outdoor outfitters. There are also the Granville Island Museums to add to the interest, and four theaters, regular arts festivals, street performances, and more.
