The Mauresque Coast

The Mauresque Coast

The Mauresque Coast fairly describes the coastline of the Massif des Maures. Here, a necklace of small villages, several with pretty ports, is strung out along the coastline, culminating in St. Tropez, one of the most famous (and arguably one of the most overrated) resorts of the Côte d’Azur. The mountains of the Massif des Maures march right to the edge of the sea, so, until you reach the fabulous beaches of Pampelonne Bay, the beaches tend to be long and rather narrow. Nevertheless, several of them, including St. Clair, Cavalière, Cavalaire-sur-Mer and Pramousquier, offer good stretches of fine, golden sand, a fair number of comfortable resorts, and facilities for watersports and refreshments. Le Lavandou, with its good fishing off Cap Bénat, is noted for seafood.
