For some of the best lake views, follow the Baroque staircase near the Alte Burg entrance to the terrace of the Neues Schloss. The Neues Schloss (New Palace), is entered from the Schlossplatz. It was built in the early 18th century when the Altes Burg was no longer thought suitable for the prince-bishops. Its Baroque interior, chapel, and museums are best reserved for rainy days–better examples are available elsewhere. Inside the palace is the Städtische Gallerie, with paintings by local artists, and the Dornier Museum with mainly photos and a few scale models of the famous Dornier planes of the early 20th century.
