Dresden, Germany Visitor Information

Information Sources

Tourist Office: Tourist information is available from Dresden-Werbung und Tourismus, Ostra-Allee, 01067 Dresden, 0351-491-920, www.dresden-tourist.de. It also has an office in the Schinkelwache in front of the Semperoper.

Transportation

Central Dresden is best explored on foot. The historic Old Town is compact with mostly pedestrian zones. Public transportation is primarily of value to get from outlying areas to the edge of the historic core.

Dresden has a well-developed public transportation network using trains (S-Bahn), trams (Strassenbahn), and buses. The S-Bahn Line 1 is particularly convenient for tourists and runs from Meiß en via Dresden to Sächsiche Schweiz.

Tickets allow for transfers between bus and tram and for central Dresden cost i1.60 for up to an hour’s travel. A day ticket is i4 or i13 for seven days. Tickets are bought from vending machines prior to boarding and must be validated on board.

Money Saving Tips for Dresden

All the major museums forming part of the State Art Collection can be seen for i10 per day or i20 for the whole year. If staying two days, the Dresden City Card offers virtually all the museums as well as local public transportation for i19. For three days, the Dresden Region Card is the best option at i29: it includes all the benefits of the City Card, but also commuter transport in the whole region. This includes the S-Bahn to Meiß en, Sächsische Schweiz, and Moritzburg.
