The interiors of many of the former houses of artists are not lit, which makes visiting on bright days desirable. In these houses, the atmosphere of a home rather than a museum is preserved, meaning very few descriptions and only a few chained-off spaces. A guided tour, or adequate guidebook, is essential for visitors interested in more than just seeing the houses and furniture. Out of conservation concerns, the number of visitors is sometimes limited during the high season.

Unless otherwise noted, opening hours for all the sights are Tuesday to Sunday, April to October from 9 am to 6 pm, November to March from 9 am to 4 pm. Admission fees are set differently for individual sights. An annual ticket, giving multiple accesses to all sights, is available at 30 euro. A combination ticket with single entries to 15 sights, excluding the Goethehaus, is 20 euro.

Transportation:

The main station is about a 20-minute walk from the historic center - taking a bus to Goetheplatz is more sensible. Bus 6 is particularly convenient, running past the Nietzsche Archive, Goetheplatz, and the Hauptbahnhof to Buchenwald.
