Real Madrid fever sweeps across the country during the season. Each morning thousands of La Marca sports papers are opened up instead of the national papers and perused over a café con leche. During any given match, bars throughout Spain will be packed to overflowing with locals cheering – not for their own home team – but for Real Madrid (it’s no big secret that the government subsidizes the sizable payroll of the league’s powerhouse). Between September and June they can be seen playing at the 125,000-seat Estadio Bernabéu.
