Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park

Estes ParkEstes Park is an incredibly pretty part of Colorado, and only a half hour’s drive from Boulder (1 hour from Denver). It is situated literally at the front door to the supremely pictureque Rocky Mountain National Park, with all the amenities of a resort town: good accommodations and restaurants, an array of shops and boutiques, and recreational opportunities for the asking.Rocky Mountain National ParkApart from the state’s fabled ski resorts, this is what people come to Colorado for: scenic, memorable, picture postcard vistas, where rolling hills, carpeted with wildflowers and overhung by fir- and pine-covered mountains, ripple into higher mountains still, that rise in craggy, sheer peaks toward the sky, often enough streaked with snow even in the summertime. The Rocky Mountains National Park encompasses 416 square miles, with park elevations varying wildly, from around 8,000 feet to well over 14,000 feet, and with no fewer than sixty 12,000-foot-plus mountains (the highest of them Longs Peak, elevation 14,259 feet) located there. The park is also one of northern Colorado’s premier areas for observing indigenous wildlife, including bighorn sheep, elk, coyotes and beavers.
